Departing Canberra Monday 4 December 2023 – the W.O.R.S.T. – Well Organised Recreational Scenic Tour!

There is such a smashing variety of locations and experiences on this tour, that there was not one single (normal!) name that we could come up with to encapsulate everything! So the WORST it is….. and if you don’t like something on this tour…. well, we told you so!

Day 1 – Canberra to Pokolbin – L

A morning departure from Canberra and north to Picton for lunch. We then skirt around Sydney and head for picturesque Pokolbin – the centre of the lower Hunter Valley wine region. We check-in to our stylish accommodation at the H Boutique Hotel, with the breathtaking backdrop of the stunning Brokenback Ranges. Dinner is at Harrigan’s Hunter Valley Gardens.

We have two nights at the H Boutique Hotel and two nights to enjoy the Hunter Valley Gardens Xmas lights.

Day 2 – Hunter Valley – B,L

This morning we head to Musswellbrook to Camel Milk NSW where the characterful owner Michelle will give us an in depth and personal view on how she produces organic milk from her rescued camels. You can also enjoy an up close and personal meeting with the camels and have the opportunity to sample some camel milk and purchase camel milk products.

It is a short drive to Vines Restaurant at Hollydene Estate to enjoy a fabulous seasonal ‘paddock to plate’ lunch of local produce, with stunning views over Wollomi National Park (claimed by some to be the best views from a winery in the Hunter!) Lunch is of course followed by tastings of  Hollydene Estate wines produced from three of the oldest vineyards in the Upper Hunter.

Day 3 – Pokolbin to Port Stephens – B,L

Today we head east to Port Stephens to a local wildlife park for a coffee stop with a difference, before we arrive at Cookabarra for a guided tour of their world leading barramundi farming operations, followed by a lunch of ‘Australia’s best Barra’ (non-fish options available) at their adjoining restaurant.

We then head to Port Stephens Koala Sanctuary, which is a joint initiative of Port Stephens Council and Port Stephens Koala Hospital. The sanctuary supports the long-term rehabilitation, preservation and conservation of koalas in the wild and ensures first-class care to sick, injured and orphaned koalas.

On our arrival, we will experience the 225m long Skywalk through the tree top canopy to hopefully spy the hospital’s patients.

Day 4 – Port Stephens to Gosford – B,L

We are up bright and early this morning for our private tour with the passionate and dedicated staff of the sanctuary, before it opens to the public. We then head out onto the water of beautiful Port Stephens for an educational and scenic tour, and dolphin watching cruise. Lunch is overlooking spectacular Stockton Beach (NSW’s longest) – home to ‘The Dunes’ – 32km of the longest moving sand dunes in the southern hemisphere. We then start a different type of ‘cruise’ down the coast road along the pretty Central Coast past Norah Head, The Entrance and Terrigal to Gosford. Dinner is at Gosford RSL Club.

Day 5 – Gosford to Canberra – B,L

Today is all about the Hawkesbury Riverboat Postman. We arrive in Brooklyn an hour before boarding so we can enjoy a coffee at one of the small town’s quality cafes by the water. Enjoy the magnificent scenery of the lower Hawkesbury River as the working boat delivers the mail and other essentials (the odd bottle of whiskey or rum…) to the river-access-only settlements upriver from Brooklyn. The skippers are locals who have lived in the area their whole lives, and you will be entertained by the stories of the river whilst cruising in comfort up this spectacular waterway.
